Summery
My hands were shaking, heart racing, and I couldn’t decide whether I was more excited or terrified. Jumping out of a plane above Palm Jumeirah wasn’t just another adventure — it was a life-altering moment. Skydiving in Dubai wasn’t just a bucket list activity for me. It was the dream.
Why I Did It
Who doesn’t dream of flying through the sky? I've always been an adventure lover, and even before I moved to Dubai for work, Skydiving in Dubai was the biggest reason I was excited to come here. At that time, skydiving wasn’t available in Pakistan, so Dubai felt like the perfect place to chase this dream.
But even after landing in Dubai, it took me almost three years to finally make it happen. Life, work, and responsibilities kept getting in the way — but the motivation never faded. The truth is, when the moment finally came, I didn’t need any extra push. I had been mentally ready for this jump for three straight years. That moment wasn’t about courage — it was about finally living a dream I had carried with me for so long.
The Experience
The moment I stepped inside the Skydive Dubai building, my heart rate shot up. The vibe was electric. Some professionals were stretching, others were carefully folding their parachutes — it felt like I had entered an elite zone where flying was a lifestyle. Right at the entrance, there’s a shop where you can check out official Skydive Dubai merchandise and gear — everything from shirts to skydiving accessories.
Before the jump, I had to sign a waiver. While reading the terms, I was surprised (and relieved) to find out that the entire experience is covered by insurance. After entering the beneficiary details and signing the waiver, I received an electronic token from the front desk.
Unfortunately, the weather wasn’t on our side. Due to strong winds, all jumps were delayed. We were given three options:
- Cancel and get a refund
- Reschedule for another day
- Wait for the weather to clear up
Of course, I chose to wait — I had waited three years already for this, what were a few more hours?
After about a three-hour wait, my token number was called. I headed to the assigned zone where I met my instructor, Mavren. She helped me gear up with the harness, and then a cameraman shot a quick intro with me. In case you didn’t know — when you skydive in Dubai, two people jump with you: one instructor who is literally tied to you, and one additional skydiver who handles all the videography during the dive.
We boarded a small plane and took off. During the climb, the plane door remained shut. But once we reached the right altitude, they opened the door — and I happened to be sitting right next to it. From that height, the Palm Jumeirah below looked like a tiny shape, maybe just 2–3 inches wide from our view. My mind went completely blank.
When it was my turn to jump, and I was at the edge of the open door… I felt nothing. No fear. No excitement. Just emptiness. I had trained myself to stay thought-free in that exact moment. And before my mind could even process what was happening — my instructor gave me a light push, and we were in the air.
That freefall… I’ve never enjoyed anything in my life more than that. I felt like Superman — flying, falling, living. And just when I started to settle into that rush, the parachute opened. Everything slowed down in an instant.
From up there, we floated gently while soaking in the stunning views of the Palm Jumeirah and Dubai’s futuristic skyline. It was unreal.
